She has worked with the CT Stonewall Foundation, the CT Coalition for LGBT Civil rights, Democracy Works, and the CT Chapter of NARAL. She was also the co-founder of the Readers Feast, the only bookstore in the Hartford area to specialize in feminist studies. Gabel was also a member of Love Makes a Family, and was part of the committee that filed a discrimination complaint against the town of West Hartford for its unfair pool pass pricing. In the interview she discusses what inspired her activism, her achievements, and disappointments, such as the Defense of Marriage Act signed by President Clinton in 1996.
